Ambassador Leaf Interviewed by Rudaw on U.S.–Syria Relations and Regional Stability

Senior International Policy Advisor and former U.S. Ambassador Barbara Leaf was recently featured in the Rudaw article, “Trump-Sharaa meeting, a ’turning point’ in US-Syria ties: Former US official.” The Iraq-based publication interviewed Ambassador Leaf following a landmark meeting between President Donald Trump and Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Riyadh, which Ambassador Leaf described as a “historic” moment and a potential “turning point” in U.S.–Syria relations.

Ambassador Leaf noted that the U.S. decision to lift sanctions on Syria could “have a tremendous effect on the regeneration of the Syrian economy,” while emphasizing that the Sharaa government now faces heightened expectations from the international community.
