Middle East

Our Middle East practice serves Israeli and Gulf State companies and public institutions in international transactions, litigation, arbitration, and tax matters, as well as US and international investors who are engaged in business ventures in the Middle East.

In Israel, our practice has included transactional, litigation and US regulatory work. We are active in public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, private equity financing, technology licensing, intellectual property matters, and corporate transactions for Israeli and US high-technology, medical device, biotechnology and other start-up companies. We also represent Israeli public institutions, including the Ministry of Finance, in its US and global financing transactions, and the Embassy of the State of Israel in economic and trade matters in Washington, DC. We have also worked with US foundations and charities in making grants and operating charitable programs in Israel and throughout the Middle East. We have represented a number of Israeli companies in trade-related matters, including export licensing, customs, import relief matters, free trade area matters, and government procurement matters. We have also represented Israeli clients in matters before the US Departments of State and Defense, as well as the Government Accountability Office. In litigation matters, Arnold & Porter has represented the State of Israel and several of its ministries and public officials, in addition to Israeli companies, in commercial litigation and arbitration, including cases involving contractual relationships and intellectual property claims.

Our team has devoted significant resources to developing its capabilities in advising parties in the Gulf States region with regard to the structuring of their investments in the US and abroad. Given the demographics of the region, there has been a significant trend toward individuals, government authorities and private entities becoming exporters of capital to the US and elsewhere. Serving these Middle East investors, we provide counsel with regard to the structuring of their investments abroad. We provide interdisciplinary legal services, calling on our attorneys in the corporate, tax and estates, public policy and national and homeland security practices, to offer clients well-reasoned, multidimensional solutions to their challenges. In litigation matters, we have represented Gulf State companies in international arbitration proceedings, as well as in federal litigation matters in the US.
