Former Department of the Interior Official Travis Annatoyn Comments on Energy Policy Shifts in The Associated Press, E&E News, and Law360

May 1, 2025

Travis Annatoyn, Environmental counsel and former Deputy Solicitor for Energy and Mineral Resources at the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), was quoted in The Associated Press, E&E News by POLITICO, and Law360 on recent developments in federal energy permitting and clean energy policy under the Trump administration.

In The Associated Press article, “Green energy supporters pushed for faster permitting. Trump is doing it, but not for solar or wind,” and the E&E News article, “Burgum leans away from ‘all-of-the-above’ energy,” Annatoyn noted that the new administration is rapidly overhauling the permitting process and is “clearly comfortable” rolling out major policy changes, suggesting that we could still “see really dramatic action” on carbon capture from the department. He also pointed out that excluding wind and solar from these policies could undermine the stated rationale for the energy emergency declared by the new administration.

In the Law360 story, “Wind Farm Work Stoppage Raises Energy Project Risks,” Annatoyn commented on the implications of the DOI’s decision to halt construction on the Empire Wind project.
