Arnold & Porter's Vijay S. Tata Appointed To Chief Counsel Position At World Bank

Washington, D.C., August 31, 2004 – Arnold & Porter LLP partner Vijay S. Tata has been appointed by the World Bank to serve as Chief Counsel of the Finance, Private Sector, and Infrastructure practice group in the Legal Vice Presidency. Having practiced in the firm’s New York office since 1987, Mr. Tata will assume his position at the World Bank in Washington, D.C., on September 1, 2004.

As Chief Counsel, Mr. Tata will lead the World Bank's legal team responsible for advising internal and external Bank clients on the development of legal and regulatory frameworks for finance, private sector, and infrastructure reform.

At Arnold & Porter LLP, Mr. Tata’s work has focused on corporate, finance, and securities matters, including acquisitions and divestitures involving U.S. and foreign corporations, public offerings and private placements, and commercial finance transactions. He has represented sovereign governments in privatizations and in capital markets transactions in the U.S. and has made significant contributions to the firm’s international transactional practice. Before joining Arnold & Porter, Mr. Tata was associated with Davis Polk & Wardwell for five years and had earlier served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Judge Gilbert S. Merritt of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit.
