Arnold & Porter Named to Law360's "2011 Practice Groups of the Year" for Health and Privacy & Consumer Protection

January 5, 2012

January 2012 -- Arnold & Porter was recognized by Law360 as having one of the top five practices in the country this past year in the areas of Health and Privacy & Consumer Protection. More than 550 submissions were reviewed by a committee of Law360 editors and five winners were selected for each practice area, with more than one dozen practices represented on the list. Law firms were selected for top honors based on the significance, size, and complexity of the matters they handled for clients.

A feature story highlighting the firm’s work on matters relating to privacy and consumer protection appeared in Law360 on January 3, 2012. The story noted a variety of cases, including one before the US Supreme Court in which firm helped overturn a Vermont law that discriminated against drug companies’ speech and failed to protect privacy; a case involving the settlement of false advertising claims brought by the FTC and three dozen state attorneys general against a leading dairy manufacturer; and the representation an educational products company in a challenge to advertisements by the maker of “Your Baby Can Read” language development system. Additional cases were the representation of a consumer products giant in obtaining a preliminary injunction against a rival retailer in false claims suit, and serving as lead advisor to a major food manufacturer in putative class actions alleging the company misled consumers about the trans fat contents of its popular granola bars.

The story also noted the firm will be working with companies to comply with regulations that may be instituted by the new US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which opened its doors in July.

A feature story on the firm’s Health Practice will appear later in January.
