Transactional Energy Lawyer Joseph Tirone Rejoins Arnold & Porter
WASHINGTON, D.C., February 4, 2014 -- Arnold & Porter LLP announced today that Joseph Tirone has rejoined the Firm as a partner in its Corporate and Securities practice. Mr. Tirone focuses his practice on energy and infrastructure project development and project finance transactions, and will divide his time between the Firm’s Washington, D.C. and Houston, Texas offices.
Mr. Tirone’s legal career spans more than two decades. He has represented clients in the energy and natural gas industries, including independent power producers, integrated energy companies, retail energy suppliers, private equity firms and hedge funds, regulated utilities, energy trading groups of major international banks, and start-up energy and infrastructure companies. Most recently, in private practice, his work has included the structuring, negotiating and drafting of complex power purchase agreements, tolling and joint development agreements, engineering, procurement and construction contracts, related equipment purchase agreements, long-term service agreements, hedging arrangements, and more.
Mr. Tirone also served four years as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel to Cogentrix, an independent power producer that developed, constructed and operated power generating assets.
"Joe’s project development and project finance experience complements the work that we currently handle for our clients in the energy and natural gas industries,” said Arnold & Porter Chairman Thomas H. Milch. “His broad-based industry knowledge is a natural fit with our emergent practice, as well as with the recent establishment of our Houston office.”
Kevin Lavin, head of Arnold & Porter’s Corporate and Securities practice, noted: “Joe’s broad experience handling complex transactions for companies in the energy sector bolsters our transactional capabilities and allows us to provide our clients with key insights that can help them keep pace with this ever-changing industry.”
Mr. Tirone earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Notre Dame Law School, where he served as senior editor of the Notre Dame Law Review. He received his B.B.A., summa cum laude, from Loyola College.
“Arnold & Porter’s considerable experience working with clients in the energy industry, and its recognized corporate and securities practice, made my decision to return to the Firm an easy one,” said Mr. Tirone. “In addition, the new office in Houston will be an asset for my existing practice, as well as for Firm clients within the region.”
