Global Arbitration Review Names Arnold & Porter to 2018 'GAR 100' Guide

April 27, 2018

The London-based Global Arbitration Review (GAR) has included Arnold & Porter in its annual "GAR 100" guide to the world's top 100 international arbitration law firms. The guide researches work performed by international arbitration practices worldwide, and offers insights into what keeps their practices in demand. In its 11th edition, published in April 2018, GAR recognized Arnold & Porter's 19 treaty arbitration cases, and its pending counsel workload involving claims worth US$11.7 billion.

In its write-up, GAR highlighted Arnold & Porter's success rate, noting that "the firm has had a stellar run of defense wins at ICSID," and that "[a]s a defender of states, Arnold & Porter has arguably had a longer winning streak at ICSID than any other firm in this book." Further, GAR noted that "[Arnold & Porter's] wins for investors shouldn't be overlooked," highlighting in particular the firm's recent success in obtaining a US$800 million on behalf of a Turkish company in an investment treaty arbitration against the Government of Pakistan, and an earlier success on behalf of the French power company EDF in obtaining a $200 million award against the Government of Argentina.
