Our International Arbitration group is one of the largest and most experienced in the world, as highlighted in Chambers USA, Chambers Global, Chambers Latin America, The Legal 500 US, The Legal 500 Latin America, The Legal 500 UK, Global Arbitration Review, International Legal Alliance Summit, LatinLawyer, and US News & World Report, among other publications.

We offer clients a practice of exceptional breadth and scope, with a team of seasoned lawyers recognized for its success rate: "Arnold & Porter has arguably had a longer winning streak at ICSID than any other firm in this book" (Global Arbitration Review "GAR 100" 2018); "Has a stellar track record representing sovereign states before ICSID tribunals" (Chambers Global 2016); client service: "'[P]ositively impressed' by the firm's representation, and that it offered 'excellent value for money'" (Global Arbitration Review "GAR 100" 2016); and experience and expertise: "An impressive practice, representing multinational corporations and sovereign states in commercial and investor-state arbitrations" (Chambers Global 2016).

Sovereign States, state-owned companies and entities, corporations and individuals consistently select us to represent them in investor-State and commercial arbitrations before international arbitral institutions worldwide, and under a variety of arbitral rules, including ICSID, UNCITRAL, ICC, LCIA, AAA/ICDR, and various chambers of commerce and industry-specific institutions. The group has extensive experience arbitrating disputes in a range of industries and economic sectors, including energy, mining, construction, intellectual property licensing, telecommunications, banking, finance, and government concessions.

Our group includes lawyers from both common and civil law backgrounds, widely praised for their language and cultural skills, and international capabilities ("The practice features individuals with regional specialisms and multilingual capabilities" (Chambers Global 2016)). Many of our team members have significant experience with Washington, DC and multilateral policy matters, having served in the US Departments of State, Commerce, Treasury, and Justice, the US Congress, and multilateral organizations in Washington such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). We also draw upon our significant relationships with firms, attorneys, and government agencies in countries around the globe, all of which help us provide great benefit and value to our clients.
