Maria Chedid Named to Daily Journal's Top Women Lawyers of 2019

May 9, 2019

Arnold & Porter International ArbitrationMaria Chedid partner Maria Chedid has been honored as one of the "Top Women Lawyers of 2019" by the Daily Journal. This is the second time Chedid has been selected for the Top Women Lawyers award, which recognizes women lawyers in California whose work has been trailblazing and exemplary with broad industry, national, or international implications.

Chedid is recognized for her pioneering work in the field of international arbitration in California. Emphasizing that her "advocacy for clients extends far beyond dispute resolution," the Daily Journal highlights Chedid's appointment to the Supreme Court task force that drafted Senate Bill No. 766, which amended the Code of Civil Procedure to permit foreign attorneys to represent clients in international arbitrations held in California. The law, which took effect on January 1, 2019, is expected to support significant expansion of international arbitration in California.

Most recently, Chedid was appointed as one of only two US representatives to the ICC Court of Arbitration in Paris, making her the first lawyer from the western US to serve as a member of the Court.

"My practice involves me in a rich diversity of different legal systems, cultures and countries," Chedid explained to the Daily Journal. "Each case is an intellectual adventure and voyage to a new corner of the globe."
