Ryan Hartman Joins Arnold & Porter’s Complex Litigation Practice in Houston
HOUSTON, April 26, 2021 — Arnold & Porter announced today the further expansion of its Complex Litigation practice in Houston with the arrival of Ryan Hartman as a partner. Mr. Hartman most recently served as a Vice President at bp p.l.c., where he was responsible for a variety of complex legal and compliance matters across the company. Mr. Hartman’s arrival closely follows the addition of litigator Katherine Treistman in February.
Christopher Odell, head of Arnold & Porter’s Houston office, said: "Ryan is a talented energy industry lawyer with broad expertise in litigation, compliance, and investigations. His in-house experience coupled with his background in private practice makes him well-positioned to help clients in addressing their complex litigation and compliance needs."
During his tenure at bp, Mr. Hartman oversaw the company’s global anti-corruption and anti-money laundering compliance teams. He led bp’s legal team across London, Houston, and Singapore that advises on US, EU, and other laws and defends against significant civil disputes and criminal and regulatory investigations. He designed and led global compliance strategies, programs, and processes. Mr. Hartman began his career in private practice, where he represented companies and individuals in a range of civil litigation and government investigations, including matters involving anti-corruption, trade sanctions and export controls, antitrust, securities, and whistleblower laws.
Mr. Hartman commented: "Having worked closely with Arnold & Porter attorneys for nearly a decade, I have seen first-hand the depth of expertise and their sophisticated approach to handling the most high-stakes matters. I am excited to join the firm with its diversified practice offerings and talented professionals."
Mr. Hartman earned his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law and received his BA from Virginia Tech.
