Bioshield II Bill Would Expand Incentives to Develop Biodefense Countermeasures

Arnold & Porter Advisory

On April 28, 2005, Senators Joseph Lieberman (D-CT), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), and Sam Brownback (R-KS), introduced S. 975, the "Project Bioshield II Act of 2005" ("Bioshield II"). This legislation would build upon the "Project Bioshield Act of 2004" ("Bioshield I"), which authorized the appropriation of $5.6 billion for the procurement of "qualified countermeasures" to treat, identify, or prevent harm from biological, chemical, radiological, or nuclear agents.
