21st Annual ITA Workshop: Commencing an International Commercial Arbitration: Fundamentals and Strategy
The 21st Annual ITA Workshop will again be presented in the form of mock performances interspersed with expert commentaries on the issues dramatically portrayed, together with a special session this year focusing on corporate concerns about the arbitral process. The mock will be presented in three acts, each of which takes place at a different point in the planning and initial stages of an international commercial arbitration: drafting and negotiating the arbitration clause (Act I); the initiation of the arbitration, including the request for arbitration and answer/response, with consideration of appointment of arbitrators and arbitrator challenge (Act II); and the preliminary hearing to organize the arbitration procedure (Act III). Organized by co-chairs Prof. Christopher Gibson (Suffolk University Law School, Boston), Jean E. Kalicki (Arnold & Porter, Washington, DC) and Klaus Reichert (Bar Council of Ireland, Dublin) the Workshop will also feature a panel of leading in-house counsel providing corporate perspectives on the arbitral process, moderated by Stephen Jagusch (Allen & Overy, London). The luncheon address will be presented by Jan Paulsson (Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Paris, and President of the London Court of International Arbitration). The Workshop faculty and commentators will include many of the leading arbitrators and arbitration practitioners in the world.
