Dori Hanswirth Discusses Law360’s ‘Biggest Copyright Rulings of 2025’
Dori Hanswirth, Intellectual Property partner and co-lead of Arnold & Porter’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications industry group, was recently quoted in the Law360 article, “The Biggest Copyright Rulings Of 2025: A Midyear Report,” which detailed eight of the most notable copyright verdicts of the year to date.
Hanswirth highlighted the relevance of U.S. Circuit Judge Pierre Leval’s May ruling in Romanova v. Amilus Inc., which found that a New York federal judge misapplied the fair use principle.
“When he comes out with a fair use opinion, it’s always very important,” Hanswirth told Law360. “And this is a very important opinion because he is taking the teachings from the Supreme Court in Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts v. Goldsmith about transformative use, and he’s applying them here.”
