Partner Claudia Higgins Discusses Antitrust Concerns for Class Ring Merger in Reuters

December 5, 2013

Reuters reports that Jostens, a leader in the market for class rings and related memorabilia, has agreed to buy one of its main rivals, American Achievement Corp. Because the market for academic memorabilia is so small, and dominated by so few companies, it is likely that regulators at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will investigate the merger with an eye for antitrust concerns, such as the possible increase in cost of these pricey mementos.

According to Kaye Scholer Antitrust Partner Claudia Higgins, a former litigator for the FTC, "It's likely that the agency will try to challenge something with this kind of market share.”
