Arnold & Porter LLP Advises Perseus Books on its Impending Sale to Hachette
NEW YORK and WASHINGTON, DC, June 27, 2014 - Arnold & Porter LLP represented Perseus Books Group and its owners, five Perseus investment funds, on all aspects of its recently announced sale to Hachette Book Group. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Perseus Books is one of the biggest independent U.S. publishers and houses nearly a dozen imprints, including Basic Books, Da Capo Press and Public Affairs, which publish in such areas as popular culture, science, and history. The publisher and private equity owner was founded in 1997 by leverage buyout pioneer Frank Pearl, who died in 2012.
Arnold & Porter partner Robert Ott led the Firm’s legal team on this latest transaction, which included partner David Berg, and associates Rebecca Crawford, Theresa Nguyen, and Raquel Saavedra, as well as partner Carey Smith on those issues relating to taxes, partner Ed Bintz on employee benefits, partner Peggy Otum on environmental, and associate Jason Ewart on antitrust.
