Arnold Porter London Attorney Appointed to ICSID Panel of Arbitrators

October 20, 2016
LONDON, October 20, 2016 -– Dmitri Evseev, a London-based Partner of Arnold & Porter LLP, has recently been appointed to the Panel of Arbitrators of the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) by the government of the Czech Republic, which the Firm has been representing in a series of investor-State disputes in the energy sector. ICSID, which is an international dispute resolution forum under the auspices of the World Bank, administers a majority of investor-State disputes worldwide. Each of the approximately 150 countries that have ratified the ICSID Convention may appoint four individuals to the Panel of Arbitrators.

The appointment is for a six-year term and makes Mr. Evseev eligible for appointment as an arbitrator in ICSID disputes, including by the Chairman of the ICSID Administrative Council. Mr. Evseev, who is English/Russian bilingual (and is also fluent in Spanish), is a national of both the United States and the Russian Federation. He has served as counsel in more than 20 investor-State disputes and has been appointed as arbitrator in cases at major commercial arbitration institutions such as the LCIA, ICC and SCC. He is also a member of the SCC’s Board, which appoints arbitrators, resolves challenges and takes other decisions as required in arbitrations administered under the SCC Rules.

Mr. Evseev’s appointment follows the appointment of the firm’s partners Paolo Di Rosa and David Huebner to the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators less than a year ago (on behalf of the United States), and of Eli Whitney Debevoise II in 2011 (on behalf of Kuwait). Mr. Debevoise is also a member of the ICSID Panel of Conciliators, along with Arnold & Porter’s José Antonio Rivas (who has been appointed by Colombia). In total, Arnold & Porter has more lawyers listed on both ICSID panels than any other law firm in the world.
