Business Development Coordinator

The Marketing Department of Arnold & Porter has an opening for a Business Development Coordinator in the New York or Washington, DC office.  The Coordinator is responsible for supporting a wide range of business development activities, particularly focused on the transactional practice groups.  This position works with lawyers, business development managers, and other firm staff to handle business development and marketing efforts. The majority of time will be devoted to pitches and proposals, submissions for legal publications, and coordinating webinars, sponsorships and conferences.  The role also may be called on to support other practices, industry, or working groups as needed. This position reports to the Director of Business Development.

A successful candidate will be a self-starter, detailed oriented, with a strong work ethic, dedicated to providing the highest level of service to our attorneys, clients, marketing department, and others across the firm. While the Coordinator will have plenty of individual responsibilities, they work as part of a team that supports each other as needed on all marketing and business development projects.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the RFP, pitch, and proposal processes from planning through submission. Elements of this responsibility include, for example:
    • Working with attorneys, marketing staff, and other firm personnel in the development and execution of proposals and presentations.
    • Identifying most applicable content and editing existing content for proposals and pitches.
    • Coordinating information and research requests with research analysts, accounting personnel, and other administrative personnel.
    • Conducting follow-up process to capture results of opportunities.
  • Working with BD Managers and Specialists to provide support for the full range of practice group marketing and business development activity, including sponsorships and presentations. 
  • Handling matter collection and internal and external deal reporting, including coordination of the league table submission process.
  • Collecting data and coordinating production of transactional practice group submissions to Chambers, The Legal 500, Law360, among others.
  • Coordinating logistics for in-person and virtual conferences, seminars, forums, sponsorships, and speaking engagements; assist with internal and external events as needed, including on-ground support.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of the firm’s experience database (Foundation) as well as practice and industry-specific deal lists.
  • Providing support for attorneys reaching out to targeted contacts and clients, including creation of targeted lists for specific business development efforts and events.
  • Overseeing the editing and production of newsletters or communications.
  • Updating and maintaining marketing collateral, including relevant practice group brochures, one-pagers, PowerPoint decks, attorney bios, experience lists, among others, with an eye toward ensuring materials are polished and consistent, including with respect to brand guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of one year of marketing, business development or proposal experience,  preferably in a professional services company or law firm. Legal marketing experience is preferred.
  • Proficient in a range of computer software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).  Comfortable using a variety of proprietary marketing databases such as Foundation and InterAction is a plus.
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of business development processes required; knowledge of proposal process preferred.  Ability to work well under pressure essential.
  • Self-motivated, with strong attention to detail and demonstrated effective project management skills. 
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate, in oral and written form, with people at all levels within the Firm.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Exhibit superior attention to detail and pride in high quality deliverables.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and demonstrate a high degree of trustworthiness in handling confidential and sensitive information.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $60,000 to $75,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

As a nonexempt position, this position is eligible for overtime.

The firm may provide a discretionary bonus annually.
