Director of Business Development

The Marketing Department of Arnold & Porter has an immediate opening for a Director of Business Development supporting the firm’s corporate and transactional practices, including but not limited to corporate & finance, tax, real estate, and bankruptcy. Reporting to the Chief Business Development and Marketing Officer (CBDMO), the Director of Business Development will be based in the firm’s New York or Washington, DC office and will play a pivotal role in driving revenue growth and advancing the firm’s market position. Key responsibilities include developing strategic business growth campaigns; managing industry and sector initiatives; generating new business through targeted sponsorships, events, and strategic partnerships; and producing compelling pitch materials and RFP responses. The Director manages a team of business development professionals supporting the transactional practices and collaborates closely with the CBDMO, Marketing and Business Development Directors, practice leaders, and other key stakeholders to advance BD objectives and facilitate marketing activities. Strong leadership, communication, and team management capabilities are essential.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with practice chairs and group heads to develop business growth strategies for transactional services.
- Direct and oversee firmwide business development activities; leading the implementation of practice/industry group business plans, identifying/targeting specific clients, creating client presentations, and tracking and measuring progress.
- Direct and oversee the firm’s pitches and RFP responses for appropriate practice groups or industry groups, including identifying opportunities with target companies and existing clients, and developing effective and compelling proposals for new business.
- Lead business development support for certain industry or sector initiatives.
- Facilitate training and coaching for prospective client meetings/presentations.
- Facilitate business development training for attorneys at all levels.
- Coordinate centralized lists of target companies developed through work with the practice/industry group business plans.
- Coordinate a strategy for business development opportunities associated with the integration of new lateral partners.
- Manage the continuous development of CRM and other database information including: client and prospect information, practice group experience and content, and activity data.
- Assist and support Firm involvement in various legal networks; including coordinating business development activities via these relationships.
- Supervise staff performance; providing guidance, support, and training to ensure skill development for team members and maximum results for BD efforts.
- Other duties as assigned by CBDMO.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $250,000 to $350,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
