Arnold & Porter Secures Major Victory for Charter in Patent Dispute
Arnold & Porter recently secured a victory for client Charter Communications in a significant patent lawsuit, as an eight-person jury in the Eastern District of Texas returned a verdict of non-infringement in favor of Charter against Touchstream Technologies Inc., which sought over $1 billion in damages. The case involved three patents related to a method for streaming videos from smaller devices to larger screens.
The jury concluded that Charter's use of set-top boxes with the accused Send To TV feature of its mobile app did not infringe the patents in question. Charter also argued that the evidence showed that fewer than 2% of the set-top boxes used the accused method and that it had developed its own technology independently.
The Arnold & Porter trial team was led by partners Daniel Reisner and David Benyacar, and included partners Dina Hayes, Marc Cohn, and Stanton Jones, senior associates Carson Anderson and Rob Stout, and associates Melissa Brown and Natalie Steiert.
