Managing IP Americas Awards Recognize Arnold & Porter for IP and Copyright Capabilities

April 17, 2026

Arnold & Porter was honored with two awards at the Managing IP Americas Awards, which recognize firms’ outstanding intellectual property achievements over the past year. The firm received an Impact Case of the Year award, was named Copyright Firm of the Year (West), and was shortlisted in several regional, national, and individual categories.

Arnold & Porter earned an Impact Case of the Year award for its work in Bartz v. Anthropic, defending against copyright infringement claims brought by a class of book authors. The Arnold & Porter team, led by Doug Winthrop and Joe Farris, secured a favorable ruling that “the company’s use of purchased and scanned books for AI training constituted fair use — the first such ruling by a U.S. court on generative AI model training.”

Arnold & Porter’s recognition as Copyright Firm of the Year (West) reflects the firm’s success in the Anthropic case and its record of handling complex, high-stakes cases across jurisdictions, advising clients on all aspects of copyright law, and protecting their legal and financial interests worldwide.

Managing IP Americas Awards 2026 also named the firm and the following partners as finalists in these categories:
